At First Class Training, we have a course to suit your organisation and your staff.

We run two types of course for people within the medical sector:

  1. Open Courses – These are designed for staff from the same type of organisations (e.g. GP surgeries or dental practices) to attend together so they can share ideas, experiences, challenges and good practice with one another.
  2. In-House Courses – We work closely with you, getting to know your individual organisation to deliver the right course to suit you. This enables us to tailor the course to your own very specific needs and requirements. This course is truly bespoke – and produces exceptional results.

Both types of courses typically take place over a one day period. In house training can be run as shorter sessions to fit in with your individual schedule.

Although based in Oxfordshire, we regularly run courses in surrounding counties such as Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Hampshire, London and the Thames Valley.  We also travel across the UK.

Here are some examples of the courses we hold:

The First Class Medical Receptionist (Open/In-House)

 This is our most popular and highly successful training course, especially among GP surgeries.

 Length: One Day

Who for: Medical receptionists (and also dispensary and administrative staff) who are in regular face-to-face or phone contact with patients – whether they have been in the job for a few days or tens of years.

Why: To help receptionists deliver a first class service to your patients that they will remember for all the right reasons.

Where: Either as an open course at a location near you or as an in-house course at your surgery or chosen off-site training venue.

Results: You will be amazed what a difference this course will make to the overall morale and attitude of your receptionist staff. You’ll see the difference reflected in your patient feedback results.

The First Class Manager (Open/In House)

Length: One Day  

Who For: New practice managers, reception managers and senior receptionists.

Why: Gives a fresh perspective on how to get the get the best out of the people they manage.  Helpful to any manager who has to deal with routine and difficult situations.

Results: Highly effective, especially when run in conjunction with the First Class Medical Receptionist course. Gives managers the tools to help their staff face everyday challenges successfully and boost staff morale.

First Class Employment Law (Open Course)

Length: Half day

Who For: Practice managers, managers with staff responsibilities.

Why: To ensure that your organisation is fully legal aware and is operating to ‘Best Practice’ Standards, whilst understanding how to minimise litigation risk.

Results: Huge improvement in working practices and offers you a better understanding of the law and what your obligations are as an employer.

First Class Health & Safety (Open Course)

Is safety in your GP or dental surgery giving you a headache? Then this safety course is for you. Run by Health & Safety Expert and IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) approved trainer Rebecca Russell, this half-day course will bring you up to speed with current health and safety requirements, helping you to manage the legal responsibilities and guiding you through the day-to-day aspects of safety in general practice.

Length: Half Day

Who for: Practice Managers and staff with health and safety responsibilities in the administrative environment.

Why: Organisations have a legal duty to provide safety training and to ensure that staff are provided with a safe environment in which to work.  They also have a duty of care to ensure that patients and visitors are not put at risk. A pro-active safety culture is paramount for these organisations.

Results: Knowing how to meet the legal duties to protect the health and safety of staff, patients and visitors  and  how to assess hazards and risks in surgeries.
